Video of NZ shown on BBC's millenium celebrations.
I was in my crib when the Millennium happened. I was only awoken when my mum burst into my bedroom.
Obviously nobody knows what 3000 is going to look like but this was very special, the internet had only been out for a few years, the shows on tv, the general culture of the time
Love❤dame kiri❤❤❤
I wish i got to experience living through 90s and made it to y2k :(
One of my only regrets was that i wasn't born early enough to experience this.
Who the hell would want to live in the 21st century.
hoping to find more of these videos from other participants. i was not seen in this clip but we were there representing Philippines. I still know the song by heart!
2023
its crazy 23 years after this. so many shits happen that broke the record back 1000 years back all happen in 23 years
Two years earlier and I could have lived in two millenniums.
2000 Leap year starting on Saturday 2001st year of Common Era 1st year of 3rd millennium 1st year of 21st century And 1st year of 201st decade
That was almost 23 years ago. Edit: now it is
❤️❤️❤️🌞
I was opposite the Sydney Opera House for this night - it still remains for me the most breathtaking fireworks and celebration i have ever seen. What TV showed did not do it justice. Yes, these days they use more bang but its not the same as creating an occasion like they did in 1999/2000 - its all about a lot of bang but no substance now. Sydney really stood out on the world stage for NYE 1999 and then the Olympics hammered it home. Sydney - an awesome city for it size and place in the world!!!
I hardly remember as I was from 99
Bye 1000
@vision5479probably wasn't any as they didn't know time or anything
7:34 the view is my hometown, and Macao was returned to China in 1999 then celebrated in 2000. I love there until now, and I am already there for 20 years.
Hello 2021!!!
2008 i born
Miss them days 🙏
Same, It brings me so much pain.
Darn I missed this 😟😢 wish I was born in 1992 or something
Welcome to the New Millennium DECEMBER 31, 1999 FRIDAY Manila, Philippines JANUARY 1, 2000 SATURDAY Wellington, New Zealand
I was 3yo
I Am 6 Year Old In 1.1.2000 I Missing Malenium Celebration Year 2000 😑
I was 7 years old in the year 2000. I remember it like it was yesterday. Having a house full of friends and family, street parties and my parents still finding confetti and celebrations decs 15 years later in our lounge fan 😂
*Do you think the New Year 2021 will look like these?*
Yea, they should make the Year 2000 celebration THE BIGGEST Single event in the world, cause i dont want to wait another 980 years for another millenium.
I wish i can live until 2100
New years 2007 celebrations around the world (pretend)
Was so happy for a night that the world had united in Love, Peace and Harmony! Had such hi hopes for this Century! Then 9/11, more wars an now Covid. We find ourselves 20 years later in a world I barely recognize. I have to believe that humanity will open their eyes to see what they are doing too each other an this fragile planet! We can bring back the magic of Millennium Night!!
Although some of us weren't able to see this, at least we celebrated 2020. Even though this year hasn't gone the way we wanted it to.
I wish i could also experience this but unfortunately i won't 👍
The last time the world celebrated the New Millennium was the year, 1000 years? Am I right or did it just happened? I don't think they did.
2020 sucks
Such an underappreciated historical event.
2001 was under appreciated
The fact I was born 7 years after this smh😭😂what a decade it was tho
You will probably see the year 2100!!!
Benjamin Mendez true! But I will be old lmao
@@benjaminmendezz Most people will probably die before the age of 80
@@Smhbruh948 my grandfather is 90
@@benjaminmendezz what's with year 2100? it won't be a special New year event. It will be celebrated just like how we celebrate new year now. The Next Grand celebration will be the next millenium and it will happen on year 3000. Nobody living today will still be alive that time. Even babies born today as of my writing won't be able to witness it.
I was still 8 months back then.
Its been 20 years now
Almost 22 years now
@@Master-kh6ww 23 now
I was born in 2003
I'm Aussie born, but every time I hear this beautiful song it brings tears to my eyes.
We could be lucky enough to see the next centry maybe I was 3 months old in the new melenium
Is there nobody in the comments that remembers this? It seems virtually everyone was born at or after 2000. I remember the day very well, one one hand there was celebration and festivities but on the other there was also some fear of the Y2K bug because it was taken much more seriously than some people might think. I remember as we watched all the countries in the world do a new millennium celebration we seemingly waited for all the power to turn off and for us to plument into total darkness. But it was fascinating to see what all the countries would do and everyone had these big things planned that ideally had never been done before to celebrate the new millennium. About 6 months or so before shops all over America sold those stupid T-shits with huge bulky countdown clocks that so many people bought so they could walk around with a giant countdown clock buried in the middle of the shirt, funnily enough stores were about 3-6 months late taking them down so 3 months later you'd still find those shirts lined up in stores except the clock had turned off so it was this giant black screen. But yea it was an interesting time and many people either watched the world celebration often throwing a party and getting drunk or were at some local party if not at the main parties you'd see on TV. It was just an accepted fact that we're going to party and celebrate and, well, if the entire world pluments back into the dark ages I guess this will be a new dark ages party then. You just tried not to think about it and focused on the main celebration but it was always on everyone's minds at the time somewhere in the back and it was common to hear it being joked about to lighten the mood and keep the festivities going.

There was a performance on top of the Sydney opera house also during the millennial celebration that was amazing. Wish I could find a video of it.
There were people who dangled over the sails of the opera house for a bit. Is that what you are thinking of?
